We had another easy drive of 30 minutes or so to our next stop of Finch Hatton. We actually decided to drive back to the little town of Marian first. In this town there is the “Melba House Visitor Centre” and within this complex a beautiful little café called Vintage Kiss. We had decided to have coffee and cake here to celebrate, Rob’s birthday. Carrot cake and melting moments with the coffee did the trick! Lyn and I also spent time in the Melba room, a special museum room dedicated to Dame Nellie Melba. She had lived in the building that housed the museum and café for a short time in the 1880’s when her husband was the manager of the Marian sugar mill. We arrived in Finch Hatton around midday and set our vans up in the showgrounds. The weather was stunning with the temperature around 33 degrees. We enjoyed sitting around the vans for a while before heading out to Cattle Creek. This spot was quite special with the clear river water tumbling over rocks. It was warm enough for me to venture into the creek to cool off. I had worn my bathers and decided the water looked too nice not to have a dip. It was very relaxing and certainly a lovely spot to cool down. Following this we returned to the showgrounds and relaxed with a few drinks and nibbles, before walking to the local hotel for dinner. We enjoyed a beautiful night, under the stars eating dinner and even had the pleasure of a visit from a gorgeous little green tree-frog. A wonderful way to celebrate Rob’s birthday!
