Rob had the alarm set for 6am today as he was off to the Mackay Golf Club for a round of golf. I relaxed around the caravan park, reading, doing some washing and chatting to Lyn and Steve. In the late morning Rob called to say he was on his way home from the golf course after an enjoyable and successful round of golf. We had decided to go for a drive out to Cape Hillsborough, a beautiful spot located on the beach with lots of wildlife and spectacular walks to lookouts. (Rob and I had stayed here in the caravan park, a couple of years ago.) Lyn and I prepared a picnic lunch and we took off as soon as Rob was back. It took about 40 minutes to drive to the Cape and so we had lunch as soon as we arrived. We enjoyed the company of a couple of kookaburras, bush turkeys and even an echidna! After lunch we went for a long, scrambling walk which took us through the beachside caravan park to a long steep and at times rocky track. The track took us to several spectacular lookouts, with picturesque views of the coast, headlands and even a view of some large, ocean turtles swimming below. We spotted some sea eagles as well and Steve even pointed out a snake in a tree, lying in the sun. Just by a fluke, our timing for this walk was perfect, as to do the loop and save back-tracking, the last part of the walk is completed along the rocky beach which you can only access at low-tide. It was quite an invigorating walk and Rob, who had already completed 18 holes of golf had well and truly overachieved his steps and exercise for the day. Returning to Mackay, we did some shopping and then we all headed to a pub, that Lyn and Steve had suggested. The Eimeo Pacific Hotel was a lovely pub, with a great location at the end of a high headland. The views from the hotel over the nearby island were wonderful. We enjoyed our drinks, the view and good conversation.
