It was time to say goodbye to Central Queensland and start heading south as we need to be in Canberra by Friday. We covered around 600km today, leaving Lake Monduran early and arriving at our destination of Goondiwindi around 3.30pm. It was a good day’s drive and we enjoyed the fact that we explored roads and towns we had not been on or to, before. With our early start we needed a coffee stop at Murgon a lovely agricultural town, full of interesting buildings and people. I was constantly writing in my little note book the names of interesting towns, national parks, river, lakes and dams we passed, for future reference. The agriculture changed significantly from cane fields and cattle, to crops and cattle. The roads we travelled were quite busy with large trucks both B doubles and triple trailers. Many were carrying hay or cattle. After arriving and setting up in Goondiwindi, we drove into the main part of the town. Goondiwindi is in Queensland but has a large river adjacent to it which is the border for NSW. The town is large and was quite busy. We went for a walk and stopped at the magnificent Victoria Hotel, for a drink and so I could admire the architecture of the building. Wet weather was predicted for Sydney and Canberra today and we thought we may encounter some rain. For most of the day it has been fine with warm temperatures however soon after setting up in Goondiwindi the heavens opened for ½ hour or so. We were lucky that we had already set up. Hopefully most of the poor weather will be gone by the time we reach Canberra.
