Monday 18th August, Beautiful Bonville (at last)

Finaly the day had arrived when Rob was to play at the famous “Bonville Golf Course”, just north of Sawtell. This was the course that he was meant to go to last year when we visited and …….was a little confused and visited the below par Sawtell Golf course instead. Rob headed off to Bonville and Pat and I decided to walk into the Sawtell village, have breakfast and check out the shops while Rob was playing golf. We had a delightful morning enjoying a delicious breakfast and poking around in some very interesting shops.  A few purchases were made! From here we decide to walk out to the Bonville Head Lookout to check out a coffee caravan that had some great reviews. Once we arrived, we walked around and around and could not find this coffee van. Pat asked a local who was sitting on the grass, whale watching and she told us that the van hadn’t been there for a while. It was very well known but I suspect that during the winter months the owner has some time off. Pat and I walked back to the caravan park, spent time relaxing and waited for Rob to return from golf. Once he had finished golf we drove to the nearby Mooney Beach and then onto Emerald Beach. At Emerald Beach we did the “Look at Me Now, Headland Walk,” an easy hike that gave us scenic views of the headland and beaches, as well as a good look at many eastern grey kangaroos who were nibbling the grass in the area. Returning to the caravan park we started to prepare ourselves to leave, tomorrow. This will be a day earlier than we intended but unfortunately this part of the east coast is going to have extremely heavy rain over the next few days so we will try to outrun it. We finished the day with a fabulous dinner at the Sawtell RSL club.

Bonville is an exciting and well-planned course. Not for the faint hearted, challenging holes, not over long, but with many creeks, trees and lakes, and hills, lots of them! Good thing everyone uses carts and some greens to the next tee were up to 700 metres apart! Land isn’t an issue. Would I play again, sure would…
