Saturday 6th September, Rough Roads to Biloela

Rob was hoping to fit a round of golf in this afternoon once we had settled into our park at Biloela. This meant we were on the road by 8.30am. the quality of the road varied quite a bit with some parts very good (those near coal mines) and others very poor, with pot-holes, ruts, undulations etc. Anyway, we had an interesting drive and I found several places that we could explore in the future, including Minerva Hills National Park, Moura Rest Area on the Dawson River and the Moura No.2 Memorial Lookout. The Lookout apparently overlooks the huge Dawson coal Mine and also is a memorial to the 36 people who have lost their lives at this mine since 1975. We arrived safely at Biloela and in good time. We are staying at the Queensland Heritage Park Complex. Our caravan sites are located behind the complex and if staying the night here, you can visit the museum free of charge. The complex has a huge museum dedicated to agriculture and equipment. There is a pioneer village and many farming machines, tractors and vintage vehicles. A huge refurbished “silo” houses much of the display. The silo was purchased after the 1988 World Expo in Brisbane. Rob and I had attended the World Expo and I had a memory of the Australian display and the silos. There were several silos and I think we may have visited another repurposed one in another town. Lyn and I enjoyed visiting the museum while Rob was off having fun at the Biloela Golf Club. There is a wedding reception being held here tonight in another area of the complex. We could see the tables all beautifully set and people preparing for the guests.
